Nothing says spontaneous like waking up on a Saturday morning and driving 40 minutes to Old Man’s Cave in Hocking Hills. This past Saturday as a couple of my friends and I tapped into the outdoors side of ourselves we hiked trail upon trail, frequently taking breaks to admire the beauty of the area. It truly was an eye-opening experience to see something so magnificent and so close to the Ohio University campus. Although this gem isn’t hidden and there were many people there to get their own dose of nature, it still felt exclusive to us.
In the age of technology, it’s hard to stray away from screens and take the time to get out into nature. I know I’m often guilty of that myself. But it is truly rewarding to step into an unknown landscape and explore what they have to offer. Even if it means sacrificing a lazy Saturday glued to Netflix.
My favorite part of the experience happened to be the waterfalls. It’s no Niagara Falls, but honestly how often do you get the chance to see waterfalls? I recommend you take some time to check out what the park has to offer. This was my first experience at Old Man’s Cave and it’s safe to say that I’d return for more of that fresh air and open scenery.
