Go-To Holiday Outfit

Well everyone it is finally December and you know what that means… Christmas! I am so excited for all of the stress of finals to be over with and to get to go home and snuggle in bed with my dogs. But, it is not quite time to go home yet. This upcoming weekend is Santa Fest here at OU. Santa Fest is a fun time to dress in your most decked out holiday gear and have a good time with friends.

I know, it can be stressful to try to decide what to wear, especially because it is going to be around thirty degrees! But don’t stress because it is really simple. The best go-to holiday outfit has to an ugly Christmas sweater. Think about it, you really can’t go wrong with an oversized sweater, leggings, and some boots!

Walmart has so many options for a great price! And honestly if you do not have time to get a sweater, walk on over to Dollar General and get yourself a Santa hat and call it a day! I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday with their family!

Thanksgiving Style

The air is cool, the leaves are changed, and it is finally time for that big Thanksgiving feast with your whole family! Personally, I don’t think Thanksgiving gets enough credit because as soon as Halloween is over everyone jumps on the Christmas train. Their minds go into a Winter Wonderland frenzy. One question everyone has around this time is what to wear. And to everyone who has asked me so far, my answer is simple, no jeans.

Leggings are key when it comes to Thanksgiving dinner. You don’t want to have a food baby while in jeans. That just sounds like a terrible time! But that doesn’t mean you can’t look cute while being comfortable.

An oversized sweater with leggings is the perfect fall look. Adding accessories also always helps. A scarf or statement necklace can go a long way when trying to make a simple outfit more complex. Also, a pair of over-the-knee boots can always make a look go from casual to a little more sophisticated.

No matter what you wear, it is all about being with the ones you love this week. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

The Cold Is Coming!

Grab your hats and jackets everyone, the weather here in Athens is starting to reach some very low temps! But being warm doesn’t mean you can’t  look cute! A key clothing item when it comes to keeping warm during the winter is having a sturdy coat or jacket. My go-to is an army green coat from Top Shop. Finding the perfect jacket can be tough, but there are many different stores and brands to choose from. One of my favorites brands is Free People. They have such a wide variety to choose from!

Another hot item this fall/winter that you should invest in is a beanie! A lot of times you will see them with little fur balls on the top! They’re super cute and also functional to protect your head from cold temperatures. It’s win-win situation. Go out and stock up on your winter gear for this season!

Here are a few of my favorite items:

Lipstick: A Girl’s Favorite Accessory

Lipstick. It’s one of the best accessories a girl can wear. The different shades and tones can change a whole look. A lot of people think they cannot pull off lipstick but I am convinced there is a color out there for everyone!

Some people are not into bright colors, while some think they’re the only colors they can pull off. One of my personal favorites is Flat Out Fabulous by MAC. It is such a bright yet subtle pink and looks good on anyone! My friend and I both have it and she is blonde while I have brunette hair but it compliments both of us so well.

One color many people think they can’t pull off is red. What people don’t know is there are many different types/shades of red. There are darks, lights, blue undertones, orange undertones, and many more. If you have a fair skin complexion I would go with a cool (blue-red) tone. If you have darker hair but a lighter skin tone pinkish-red would look amazing. Red hair goes great with an orange-red lip. Please please please do not be afraid to try red!! But hey if you try it and it’s truly not your color, nude is always the answer!

The Process of Layering

It is crazy how quick a trend can change within months, even weeks at some points. It gets a bit difficult trying to stay up to date with the new trends while incorporating your own style. It’s as if you love a new style trend and want to change your whole wardrobe, but you’re a broke college student on a budget. At times it can be annoying. However, there is always something in your closet or a friend’s closet that you can mix and match to create an amazing look. Layering is a crucial aspect when it comes to fashion and styling this time of year.

One of my favorite things about the cool weather is being able to layer your clothes. There are many different looks you can get with an outfit by layering it. From just a tank top and a cardigan, to a cute sweater with a vest, it goes a long way. My favorite look has to be a plain oversized t-shirt with a knot in it to tie it up, an oversized cardigan and some leggings.

You can easily go from wearing just a t shirt with jeans and add a flannel or leather jacket over it to change the whole look. Another huge aspect in layering an outfit is accessorizing. Adding a fun bag or a cute pair of shoes to an outfit can make it look completely different. This finishes your look if you’re feeling as though it needs a little something extra.

As Athens is going from 40s in the morning to 60s in the afternoon, remember layering is the key to a stylish and comfortable look for fall.

Looks For Less: Gucci Edition

A huge trend I have noticed more and more this year is loafers. One shoe in particular I have been in love with since the day I saw it is the Gucci Princetown slipper.

Now if you do not know what these are, they’re a slide on loafer with a little gold chain embellishment on the front of the shoe. There are many different styles of them, but I think my favorite is the Princetown black suede with the fur on the inside.

Fortunately other brands that are not as pricey created shoes that are similar to the lovely Princetown slipper. One brand in particular that is creating a look for less is Steve Madden. Steve Madden is one of my favorite retailers because they have every type of shoe you need.

The Steve Madden loafer, named Jill, is the specific shoe I am talking about in this instance. The price difference between these two shoes is drastic. Being a college student on a budget, it’s not practical to drop $995 on a pair of shoes, but luckily you can get the Steve Madden Jill loafer for only $89.99.

I don’t know about you, but they seem pretty similar to me. Look below to compare and let me know what you think!

The Perfect T-Shirt for Homecoming Weekend

It’s finally that time of year again… HOMECOMING! I am excited to experience my first OU homecoming. The first thing that comes to my mind is what am I going to wear? I’ve been told multiple times that pretty much everyone wears their finest OU gear! Now as exciting as that sounds I really don’t want to wear just a lame t-shirt. Then it came to me, I can cut it!

Now I have cut a lot of t-shirts before and there are many different ways to cut it. I have made t-shirts into tube tops and even halter tops! Pinterest has given me a lot of my inspiration! Some styles end up really cute and some not so much. But hey you live and you learn, right? A big tip I would give anyone who wants to try this out is to always go a size up in the shirt. Depending on which style you choose to do, you can always make the shirt go down a size!

Here is a Ohio t-shirt I recently cut

Fall Clothing Trends

Here is my gorgeous friend, Alexa, wearing a pair of Lucky Brand boyfriend jeans and a copper top from Free People.

As October is approaching, cool weather and warm colors begin to make their debut. It has been warm here in Athens, but that doesn’t mean the chilly air is far. With fall right around the corner, it’s time to pull out the sweaters, boots and everything else from the back of your closet. Stores are stocking shelves with all things fall. Two huge trends that I am already seeing are warm colors and boyfriend jeans.

Now I know a lot of people claim that they “can’t pull off boyfriend jeans,” but I promise you can! The key to finding good boyfriend jeans is always going a size up. Although it can be difficult to find that perfect jean, you have to keep your mind open to trying different things. You can end up finding something you love! The best part about boyfriend jeans is they go with any top. A sweater, a bodysuit, or even just a plain t shirt looks great with them.

Now it’s time to talk about warm colors. Obviously when I think of fall I think of all things pumpkin because what else would I think of? I have seen so many brands using colors such as burnt orange, mustard yellow and deep red. These three colors blend together perfectly when pairing outfits. What’s nice about fall is you can wear leggings and be comfy, but throw on a big sweater and look stylish. Recently, when shopping at some boutiques in Athens I noticed they were also following this trend. These colors are popular because fall is such a cozy season. Warm colors are calming and go well with the overall coziness of the season. Below I attached links to clothing items that would blend well into everyone’s fall wardrobe!
